Drug Calculations
Tablets or Capsules to Give Calculator
How many tablets make up the ordered dose.
Formula
Tablets = ordered dose ÷ strength of one tablet (same units)
How it is used
- Convert both numbers to the same unit first (1 g = 1,000 mg; 1 mg = 1,000 mcg).
- An answer that is not a whole or half tablet is a signal to recheck the order and the supply.
Key points
- Never split capsules, extended-release (XR, SR, CR) or enteric-coated tablets.
